A to-do list for you when you buy a new property:
• Setup Enmax or another provider for heat, water electricity: on line or call them
• Arrange your annual tax payment if you are using the TIPPS program (Tax Installment Payment Plan): Tax Instalment Payment Plan (TIPP) (calgary.ca)
• For condos and townhouses, call the condo management company and set up condo fee payments
• Setup your internet/cable
• Call your insurance broker and pay for your home insurance: if you bought a condo, share the Condo Corporation’s Insurance with your broker
• Start your mail forwarding to your new address through Canada Post: Forward mail when you move or relocate | Personal | Canada Post (canadapost-postescanada.ca)
• Update your address on: banks, investments, driver’s license, car insurance
And, if you have sold:
• Cancel your account with Enmax or other provider: heat, water, electricity
• Cancel your property taxes if you are using TIPPS program Tax Instalment Payment Plan (TIPP) (calgary.ca)
• For condos and townhouses, cancel your monthly condo fees as of the date of possession by the new owner
• Cancel your internet/cable and make sure you return any equipment you rented
• Cancel your home insurance
• Setup Mail forwarding to new address through Canada Post Forward mail when you move or relocate | Personal | Canada Post (canadapost-postescanada.ca)
• And, change your address on banks, investments, driver’s license, car insurance
